Another great turnout with an almost sold out show field of great cars. The generosity for the Semper Fi Fund was over flowing as we raised over $20,000.00. Our entertainment this year was provided by Savanah Lynne Melcher and her band. Her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner drew a rousing ovation. This year our color guard was a group of Young Marines who performed admirably. As usually our DJ Colin Day kept us in oldies but goodies.
This year we had a unique fundraising event, a Boutique presented by Drs' David and Sharon Cook assisted by Bernice Green. Through their efforts over $1700.00 was raised, which was included in the total. An over the top display of gift baskets, designer hats and dolls drew a flock of buyers who all but sold the place out. I guess we are not all into wrenches.
Again we had a great showing of car clubs: Cruzin 50's took home the club participation trophy, the Early Birds, Custom Safari Club, the Duncan Gang, So Cal Challengers and the Roadsters of L A also showed up in force. The most inventive club name Wheels of Confusion. Just imagine what that monthly meeting is like.
Special thanks for donations from the Roadsters of L A and Street Rods Unlimited. Our group of volunteers kept the flow of cars moving smoothly into the show field and Wyotech again provided us with a great facility.
Information about the show was spread by Channel 2, Channel 7 and Cox cable. You might have caught their coverage of the Semper Fi Fund and Wyotech presenting the modified Jeep to SSgt David Lyon, a worthy veteran of the Middle East Wars.
Thanks again for the participation by the LBPD and the LBFD.
